Beatmatching in a weekend: the practice routine, the headphones and the first three transitions every beginner should master.
You do not need club gear to learn to mix — a laptop, honest headphones and one weekend of structured practice will get your first blend clean. Here is the routine.
Day one is ears only: count phrases in eight-bar blocks until you feel the “one” without thinking. Day two adds pitch riding on a single fader. Day three is transitions — the echo-out, the filter swap and the patient long blend.
“Mixing is just counting, confidently, in public.”
Record every session, even the rough ones. Your fortieth mix will embarrass your fourth, and that is exactly the point.
