Oversized tailoring, calm palettes and second-hand first: what Tokyo street snapshots say about where casual fashion is heading.
Tokyo’s casual uniform this season is deceptively simple: an oversized blazer, a soft knit, wide trousers and one deliberate accessory. The philosophy underneath is anything but casual — fit, fabric and provenance matter more than logos.
What the market data shows
Resale platforms report tailored wool and deadstock denim outselling fast fashion three to one among buyers under thirty. Department stores answer with repair counters and rental rails on the ground floor.
Color has gone quiet too: camel, charcoal, optic white and a single hit of vermilion. It photographs beautifully, which is half the point — every outfit is content now.
“Buy once, tailor twice, wear for a decade.”
Start with the blazer: thrift it oversized, taper the sleeve, and let the rest of the outfit stay soft. The market has already voted.
